NYC Marathon Car Service
Race day is Sunday, November 1, 2026. Plan rides for spectators, runners and groups around the bridge and avenue closures, with a chauffeur who knows where the barricades go. Updated October 1, 2026.
Race date and where it starts and ends
The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026. It starts on Staten Island and finishes in Central Park, crossing all five boroughs along the way. News coverage of the 2026 course also reports a change in the Bronx section, the first alteration in about 15 years, so a route you remember from earlier years may not match this one exactly.
For a car service, the geography matters more than the race itself. The runners' route runs from Staten Island up through Brooklyn, a short stretch of Queens, the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan, north on First Avenue, into the Bronx, and back down Fifth Avenue to the park. Anywhere along that line, the street in front of your pickup point may be closed to vehicles for most of the day.
Road and bridge closures to plan around
The City of New York publishes a closure and no-parking list for the marathon each year, and it says closures and re-openings can roll on a changing basis and are at the discretion of the NYPD. The table below is taken from the city's list for the 2025 race. We show it as a pattern, not as 2026 times, because we could not find a published 2026 list when this page was updated. Expect the same bridges and avenues to be affected, and check the current city list before race day.
The practical takeaway is that the course acts like a wall. Crossing it by car, for example from the Upper East Side to the Upper West Side, is hard while the race is running. Plan pickups and drop-offs on the same side of the course as the passenger, and ask your chauffeur to pre-position the car before the nearest closure begins.
Closure pattern from the city's 2025 list
| Location | Listed closed (2025 race) |
|---|---|
| Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, upper level | Sat. 11pm to Sun. 4:00pm, both directions |
| Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, lower level | Sun. 7:00am to 4:00pm, both directions |
| Pulaski Bridge | Sun. 7:00am to 6:30pm |
| Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, lower level | Sun. 6:30am to 5:30pm, both directions |
| First Avenue, 59th Street to the Willis Avenue Bridge | Sun. 7:00am to 10:30pm |
| Willis Avenue Bridge and Madison Avenue Bridge | Sun. 7:30am to 6:30pm |
| Fifth Avenue, 120th to 90th Street | Sun. 9:00am to 7:30pm |
| Central Park West, 59th to 77th Street | Sun. 6:00am to 9:30pm |
These are 2025 times, shown as a planning pattern. 2026 times may differ.
Pickup planning for spectators
Spectators usually want to watch in one spot, then move to another to catch a runner twice. A chauffeur on hourly service makes that possible. The car waits at an agreed spot just outside the closure, and you walk in to the barricades. Book the car for the whole watching window instead of a single drop-off, so your ride is already waiting once streets close.
Tell us which borough and which avenue you plan to stand on. We pick the closest open cross street, confirm a pickup location by message, and keep the car staged nearby. Sedans carry up to three passengers and SUVs up to six, so a family watching together often books an SUV.
Pickup planning for runners
Runners face the toughest timing. Streets around the Staten Island start close early on race morning, with the 2025 list showing closures there from 5:00am. Follow your official start instructions from the New York Road Runners for your wave and entry route, and book a car that gets you to the approved drop-off with time to spare.
After the finish, you will be tired, cold and carrying a bag. Meet the car outside the closed zone around Central Park, not inside it. Agree on a street and a time window ahead of time, and keep your phone charged. Your chauffeur will text you the car description and exact corner.
Sprinter options for groups
Charity teams, running clubs and families with a lot of luggage often prefer one Sprinter to several cars. One vehicle means one meeting point and one driver to coordinate with, which matters when streets are closed and cell service is crowded. Sprinter seating depends on configuration, so tell us your headcount and we confirm the right van.
Sprinter service starts at $200 per hour and S-Class service starts at $175 per hour. These are starting rates, not all-in, and the booking form confirms the final price, which can vary with taxes, tolls and availability.
Hourly service or a point-to-point transfer
Use a point-to-point transfer when you only need to go from A to B before the closures begin, for example hotel to a start-area drop-off. Transfers start at $130 for a sedan and $160 for an SUV. Choose hourly service when the car must wait, reposition or make several stops, which is the usual spectator day. Hourly rates are $120 for a sedan and $150 for an SUV, all-in with gratuity and fees included, with a 3-hour minimum.
Our hourly rate explainer shows what 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6-hour bookings cost under the minimum, so you can size the booking before you reserve.
Realistic timing for race day
Build in more buffer than a normal Sunday. Closures begin before the first runners start, bridges stay shut well after most runners pass, and some re-openings happen in stages. In last year's city list, Manhattan and Bronx closures ran into the evening, and Central Park West was listed closed until 9:30pm.
If your trip crosses the course, the safest plan is to cross before the closures start in the morning or after they lift in the evening, or to route around using bridges and tunnels that stay open. Ask us for a plan when you book and we will tell you honestly whether a crossing is realistic at the hour you want.
