What each route guide covers
A route guide answers the practical questions for one trip: roughly how long the drive takes once you are moving, which roads the car usually uses, which vehicle fits the passengers and bags, and what to put on the reservation so the pickup goes cleanly.
The times on these pages are planning ranges, not promises. Weather, an incident on the Van Wyck or a Friday afternoon can push any of them.
JFK to Manhattan
Most JFK to Manhattan rides take about 45 to 90 minutes. The car leaves the airport by the Van Wyck Expressway or the Belt Parkway, then picks the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, the Williamsburg Bridge or another crossing depending on the Manhattan door.
LaGuardia to Manhattan
LGA to Manhattan usually runs 25 to 60 minutes. The Grand Central Parkway leads to the RFK Bridge for the Upper East Side, Harlem and much of Midtown, while some downtown trips use the Queens-Midtown Tunnel instead. Terminal B and Terminal C pickups each have their own curb, so the reservation should name the terminal.
Other airport transfers
Newark Liberty trips follow the New Jersey Turnpike to the Holland or Lincoln Tunnel. Teterboro sits a short drive from the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln Tunnel. Westchester County Airport connects to the city by the Hutchinson River Parkway and I-684. The airport transfer guide covers how to plan any of these.
Leave room for the city
For departures, tell dispatch your flight time and confirm the pickup time for your route. Weekday afternoons, Friday getaway traffic, holiday weekends and big nights at Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center or the US Open in Flushing Meadows all add time. It is easier to wait at the gate than to sit in a tunnel watching the clock.
